Shae Cornette Named Full-Time Host of First Take

ESPN has officially named Shae Cornette as the new full-time host of the highly popular debate show “First Take,” taking over from Molly Qerim, who left the program in September after a decade-long tenure. Cornette, who has been with ESPN since 2020 and has served as a fill-in host for the show, will make her debut as the main host on November 3.

Stephen A. Smith, a driving force behind “First Take” and an executive producer of the show, expressed his excitement about Cornette’s appointment. He praised her as someone who possesses the necessary confidence, toughness, and sports insight to thrive in this demanding role. “I’ve seen her command the desk with poise and passion every time she’s hosted. She’s the real deal, and I’m thrilled to have her officially join the team,” Smith stated.

In response to her new role, Cornette conveyed her readiness to contribute to the esteemed brand of “First Take.” She reflected on her journey at ESPN, expressing enthusiasm about bringing her energy and perspective to the debate desk. “The show’s energy and passion represent everything I love about sports,” she noted.

Cornette, who has a diverse background in radio and television, previously anchored “SportsCenter” and has become a familiar face at ESPN. As she prepares to embark on this new chapter, her last appearance on “SportsCenter” is set for October 25. ESPN’s executive vice president, David Roberts, highlighted Cornette’s meticulous preparation and her ability to engage with the show’s dynamic personalities, reinforcing that she is an excellent fit for the program.

The departure of Qerim was unexpected and was reportedly tied to a contract disagreement, but with Cornette stepping in, there is a fresh optimism for the future of “First Take.” The show continues to air weekdays from 10 a.m. to noon, promising fans spirited debates and engaging discussions under Cornette’s leadership.
