Severe Weather Overnight: Houston Braces for Late-Night Storm Front

Severe weather is brewing this Saturday night, with tornado and thunderstorm watches issued from East Texas through Mississippi. However, Southeast Texas may experience a milder impact from these storms. Areas in the northern counties, including Spring, The Woodlands, Conroe, Huntsville, and Livingston, should remain vigilant, as they could encounter strong to severe storms, including damaging wind gusts exceeding 20 mph.

The forecast indicates that by 10 PM, a cold front will begin moving through the region, bringing storms from the northwest to the southeast. Houston is expected to feel the brunt of this front around 11 PM, with forecasts suggesting more showers than thunderstorms. Residents should keep an ear out for potential thunder as the line moves through.

As the cold front advances, it will likely exit the coast by 2 AM, moving eastward beyond the viewing area. It’s important to note that weather forecasting can change, and the timing of the cold front may vary as it often speeds up.

Looking ahead to Sunday, Houston will enjoy sunshine and low humidity, thanks to winds blowing from the north. While temperatures will remain warm in the upper 80s, significantly lower dew points promise a refreshing change. Although this front offers some respite from humidity, it will also elevate the fire risk as moisture levels drop. Due to this heightened danger, burn bans are being implemented across more counties, with precautions urged against spark-causing activities.

Residents are advised to take necessary steps, such as securing tow chains, avoiding fires left unattended, and refraining from tossing lit cigarettes on the ground. As the forecast continues to suggest a hot and dry pattern, more counties are expected to join the burn ban list in the coming weeks.

The extended forecast shows several cold fronts on the horizon, including another one on Tuesday that will alter wind patterns. By the end of next week, another cold front is anticipated, potentially dropping high temperatures into the mid-80s. Monday morning is projected to be the coolest start in the upcoming week.
