Severe Weather Alert: Thunderstorms and Flooding Ahead!

Heavy rain and possible thunderstorms are set to hit the area starting Tuesday night, marking a significant change from the pleasantly dry conditions earlier in the week. As clouds gather throughout the day, showers will begin to affect Thursday’s commute, continuing through dinner and into the overnight hours.

By early Wednesday morning, the rain may become less intense, allowing the ground a chance to drain before more rainfall arrives. Embedded within Tuesday’s rains, some thunderstorms could intensify, with strong winds and the potential for isolated tornadoes posing the primary threats, while hail cannot be ruled out.

Showers are expected to persist intermittently throughout Wednesday, with a Flood Watch in effect across the region. This could lead to localized flooding, although specific areas at risk remain hard to predict.

Rainfall totals are projected to range from 4 to 8 inches across most areas, with certain spots possibly receiving close to a foot of rain. The majority of this precipitation is anticipated between Tuesday and Wednesday, which is when the flood threat will be heightened. Commuters should be prepared for water on roadways during both Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes and consider planning alternate routes.

As the week progresses into Thursday, the rain should begin to lessen, though showers are still expected intermittently until the weekend, when clearer skies may finally allow the region to dry out.

The forecast indicates a challenging week ahead, but the eventual return of sunnier, drier weather is something to look forward to.
