Baton Rouge, La. – The WAFB First Alert Weather Team has designated Wednesday, May 7, as a First Alert Weather Day due to anticipated flooding and potential isolated strong storms, particularly in the morning hours.

A Flood Watch is in effect for all of southeast Louisiana and southwest Mississippi until 7 PM Thursday. The heaviest rainfall is expected by Wednesday morning, with additional storms likely to develop through Thursday, particularly in regions experiencing the most intense rainfall.

Predictions indicate that rain totals will typically range from 3 inches to 6 inches, with localized areas possibly receiving between 6 inches to 8 inches or more.

While isolated strong storms may occur, their prevalence is expected to decrease after sunrise on Wednesday.

Residents are urged to stay prepared by ensuring they have a way to receive alerts in the event of severe weather warnings. Portable electronic devices should be charged, and the latest versions of the 9 News and Weather apps should be updated for access to broadcast livestreams in case of power outages.

Weather updates will be available on WAFB, WAFB+, and the station’s social media pages including Youtube and Facebook. Additionally, downloading the WAFB First Alert Weather App will provide direct video updates to smartphones, along with access to interactive radar for storm tracking.

Residents are encouraged to share any weather-related images or videos with 9Reports.

This proactive approach ensures that the community remains informed and safe as it navigates through potentially severe weather conditions.
