LANSING, Mich. — Mid-Michigan is bracing for several rounds of precipitation throughout Wednesday, with an increased risk of severe weather expected later in the afternoon and evening.

The Storm Prediction Center has designated areas south of I-96, including Ionia, Shiawassee, Clinton, Montcalm, and Gratiot Counties, as having an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) for severe weather. While morning showers and thunderstorms are anticipated, these initial conditions are not expected to reach severe levels.

The threat of severe weather is forecasted to escalate between 3 PM and 9 PM, with strong damaging winds being the primary concern as storms develop this evening. Additionally, there is a possibility of hail and isolated tornadoes. Heavy rainfall is also on the horizon, with expected totals between 1-2+ inches in some areas.

Despite the severe weather potential, residents can expect a warm and humid day, with temperatures likely climbing into the low 80s. However, humidity levels are projected to drop slightly as the week progresses, before rising again by the weekend, potentially bringing temperatures into the low to mid-90s.

The StormTracker 6 Weather Team is actively monitoring the situation and will continue to provide updates through various platforms, ensuring that the community stays informed about weather developments.

This weather outlook serves as a reminder of the dynamic and sometimes intense climate that can occur during this time of year, emphasizing the importance of staying informed and prepared for sudden changes in weather conditions.
