KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City metro area faces a challenging weather scenario on Monday, with strong storms, flooding, and an ongoing heat wave prompting a First Warn Weather Day.

A Flash Flood Warning is currently in effect until 1:15 p.m. for Cass and Jackson Counties in Missouri, as well as Johnson and Wyandotte Counties in Kansas. Radar reports indicate rainfall between 1-2 inches, with an additional 0.5-1 inch expected. Residents are reminded to exercise caution while driving, following the motto of “turn around, don’t drown” when encountering flooded roadways.

As the region experiences an extended heat wave, Extreme Heat Warnings are in place through Thursday. On Monday, heat index values are expected to rise to between 105 and 110 degrees. Morning temperatures are predicted to linger in the lower to mid-80s, but as skies clear during the afternoon, they may climb to around 92 degrees, making the heat feel especially intense.

Moving into the week, First Warn Weather Days will continue from Tuesday through Thursday. While Tuesday and Wednesday are projected to be dry and sunny with highs around 95 degrees and heat indices remaining in the same elevated range, Thursday may bring a slight change with a 20% chance of rain and storms, particularly along and north of I-70.

By Friday, there is a slight reprieve from the heat with temperatures expected around 93 degrees and heat indices peaking at 105. A 30% chance of rain in the morning could help moderate the temperatures, but as the mercury rises again over the weekend, monitoring will be essential.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed with real-time updates and alerts through local weather services to navigate this week’s challenging conditions safely.
