The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for North Central Monroe County in northeastern Pennsylvania, effective until 4:30 PM EDT. As of 3:45 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Mountainhome, approaching Mount Pocono, and moving southward at 5 mph. The storm has been characterized by wind gusts of up to 60 mph and quarter-sized hail.

Residents in the warned areas, including Mount Pocono, Paradise Valley, Skytop, Mountainhome, Canadensis, Alpine Mountain, and Cresco, should be prepared for potential minor damage to vehicles, roofs, siding, trees, and power lines due to the storm’s strong winds.

The National Weather Service advises individuals to seek shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor of a building to ensure safety. Those near Mountain Lake or any bodies of water are urged to move indoors or to a vehicle, as lightning can strike up to 15 miles away from the storm. The storm is also producing heavy rainfall, which raises the risk of flash flooding; residents are cautioned not to drive through flooded roadways.

For anyone experiencing severe weather, it is important to report conditions to local law enforcement, who will relay the information to the National Weather Service.

As volatile weather patterns become increasingly common, it’s vital for communities to remain vigilant and aware of such warnings. Taking precautionary steps can help minimize the impact of severe weather events on individuals and property.
