A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for most of the state until 9 p.m. tonight, coinciding with a notable surge in temperatures and humidity levels. Today’s weather is predicted to be exceptionally hot, with highs potentially reaching 100 degrees, which could break the previous record of 99 degrees set in 2016.

Residents are advised to take precautions against the heat, including staying hydrated and finding ways to keep cool. Additionally, a heat advisory and warning are active for certain areas until the same time as the thunderstorm watch.

The storms are anticipated to begin rolling in from the northwest around 4 p.m., moving southeast across the state. These thunderstorms may produce damaging wind gusts ranging from 40 to 60 mph, along with significant lightning activity, though their duration in any one area is expected to be brief—lasting about an hour or less.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, a refreshing change is in the forecast, with highs expected to be in the mid-80s and plenty of sunshine. However, unsettled weather is expected to return with storms overnight into Sunday, bringing humidity back into the mix. Residents should prepare for the possibility of on-and-off rain showers throughout the afternoon and evening, as new data suggests that there may be stalled downpours resulting in localized flooding.

Despite the current weather advisories, the outlook for tomorrow appears promising, with the potential for more pleasant conditions following tonight’s storms.
