Seth Ryan, a former wide receiver for Clemson University, has officially joined the New York Jets as their new passing game coordinator, marking a significant milestone in his coaching career. This appointment follows a long legacy of coaching within the Ryan family, as Seth’s father, Rex Ryan, previously served as the head coach of the Jets from 2009 to 2014, and his grandfather, the late Buddy Ryan, was an influential NFL coach for 26 seasons, having started his career with the Jets in the late 1960s.
Seth Ryan’s journey at Clemson spanned from 2013 to 2016, during which he contributed to the Tigers’ successful 2016 national championship campaign. An inspiring story of perseverance, Seth initially joined the team as a walk-on before earning a scholarship in January 2016. As a player, he participated in 33 games, primarily serving as the team’s holder for placekicks. During his tenure, he recorded five receptions for 49 yards.
Before joining the Jets, Seth amassed valuable experience in the NFL, spending the last five seasons with the Detroit Lions; he served as an assistant wide receivers coach and later as an assistant tight ends coach. Earlier in his career, he held the position of offensive quality control coach with the Los Angeles Chargers, further augmenting his coaching expertise.
