Serena Williams backs Alcaraz to rewrite tennis records

Tennis icon Serena Williams, who officially retired over three years ago, continues to engage with the sport she loves and has expressed her admiration for rising ATP star Carlos Alcaraz. Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam champion, remains a keen observer of tennis, particularly admiring the accomplishments of younger players after her retirement in 2020.

Williams has a history of supporting Spanish tennis legends, having been a fan of Rafael Nadal throughout his illustrious career. With Nadal now retired, she has shifted her focus to Alcaraz, who, at just 22 years old, has already won six Grand Slam titles. “I’m a huge fan of Alcaraz. I always call him when he plays, to cheer him on,” she said at the Princess of Asturias Awards, highlighting her connection to the young player.

As Alcaraz continues to rise in the ranks, Williams believes he has the potential to surpass Novak Djokovic’s current record of 24 Grand Slam titles. Drawing parallels with the careers of iconic players like Roger Federer and Nadal, she stated, “At this point, anything is possible. Records are there to be broken.” This optimism reflects a hopeful perspective on the potential of emerging tennis stars.

Alcaraz is currently preparing for the upcoming Paris Masters, which is being held at its new venue, the La Defense Arena. Although he withdrew from the Shanghai Masters, he has been practicing hard in Paris, eager to build on his previous success this season.

As the tennis world watches closely, fans remain excited about the possibilities that lie ahead for both Carlos Alcaraz and the sport itself, reflecting Williams’ belief that young talent can indeed reshape the record books.
