SEPTA has announced the cancellation of several Regional Rail line trains, including those serving the Airport, Fox Chase, and Chestnut Hill West routes, due to ongoing safety inspections of its Silverliner IV fleet. These cancellations are intended to ensure more reliable service for commuters on Monday morning.

Affected trains in the morning include numbers 9411, 412, 425, 802, 809, and 814. There will also be additional cancellations later in the day for trains numbered 426, 9435, 436, 449, 9450, 9459, 460, 473, 821, 826, 833, 838, 845, 850, 857, and 862.

Riders should anticipate fewer and more crowded rail cars on the remaining trains, and are warned that missed stops, particularly near Center City, and last-minute cancellations could still occur throughout the day.

This announcement follows a two-week extension granted to SEPTA on October 31, which was necessary for the safety inspections of the Silverliner IV fleet. The inspections were prompted by the National Transportation Safety Board’s directive to halt the fleet’s operations following a series of train fires. As of October 31, SEPTA had completed inspections on 114 out of the 225 rail cars, with a pace of approximately eight cars inspected each day.

These proactive measures are essential for ensuring commuter safety and reliability during this period of heightened scrutiny within SEPTA’s rail services. As the transit agency continues its efforts to inspect and ensure the quality of its fleet, riders are encouraged to plan ahead and remain informed about schedule changes.
