A report by journalist Jeong Hye-yoon highlights that the skies over Seoul have been shrouded in a hazy gray, with fine dust blanketing the area. The stagnant air has led to a heightened concentration of fine particulate matter, causing the outlines of buildings in Seoul and surrounding regions to appear blurred.
According to Lee Jae-jeong, a team leader at Kweather, the stagnant conditions have resulted from a stationary high-pressure system, coupled with light winds, leading to elevated fine dust levels, particularly in the western regions. However, with clean easterly winds expected to continue flowing in over the weekend, the air quality is projected to improve as vertical air movements become more robust.
On the other hand, the weekend will bring increasing cloud cover due to incoming rain clouds, and rainfall is forecasted for the southern regions beginning overnight and spreading across the nation. Precipitation amounts are expected to reach up to 60mm in Jeju, while inland areas may receive between 5 to 20mm, which is considered modest.
Meteorological analyst No Yu-jin further notes that the rain clouds approaching from the west will cause the southern region to experience rain from Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning, while the central region will see showers from early Sunday until the afternoon.
