A 26-year-old man, Deriko Montreze Hill, has been arrested in connection with the assault of a 90-year-old woman at a senior living facility in Orlando. He faces multiple serious charges, including burglary of a dwelling with assault or battery, attempted sexual battery, and battery on a person aged 65 or older.
The incident occurred on April 29, when Hill allegedly broke into the victim’s apartment at HarborChase in the Dr. Phillips area. The victim was reportedly watching television when she noticed a shadow behind her and saw Hill exposing himself. He is accused of pushing her to the ground, leading to a physical struggle. As he fled the scene, Hill allegedly said, “I’m sorry, ma’am,” but did not make physical contact with her in a sexual manner.
Law enforcement became aware of Hill after responding to a report of a suspicious individual near another senior living facility on May 20. Upon arrival, they found a man that matched the description of the suspect. Authorities emphasized the importance of safeguarding seniors, stating, “No senior should ever be attacked in their home or apartment.”
A prior incident linked to Hill involved a burglary on April 15, where he confronted a woman in her residence, but she was able to scare him off by calling for help.
This ongoing investigation highlights the dedicated efforts of local police to protect vulnerable populations in the community. With the suspect now in custody, there is hope for greater safety among residents in senior living establishments.
