The son and daughter-in-law of Iowa Senate President Amy Sinclair, Evan and Victoria Sinclair, have been charged with child endangerment and possession of marijuana. According to court documents, police were alerted by a concerned citizen who reported seeing a toddler hanging out of a second-story window at their home.
The witness attempted to make contact by ringing the doorbell, but when no one answered, they contacted law enforcement. Upon arrival, officers were welcomed into the residence, where they noted a strong smell of marijuana, and both individuals appeared to be under the influence.
During their conversation with the couple, an officer reportedly spotted a naked toddler leaning precariously out of the window, playing with toys stacked on a roof overhang. Shortly thereafter, police observed the child running out through the back door.
Evan Sinclair was reportedly asked to surrender any marijuana present in the house, to which he allegedly responded by retrieving a grocery bag containing the substance.
Both Evan and Victoria Sinclair have professional ties to the Iowa state capitol, with Evan serving as secretary to state Senator Dave Sires and Victoria having worked as a lobbyist for various clients, as well as for former Congressman Steve King.
This incident raises important discussions around child safety and the responsibilities of individuals in positions connected to governance. The authorities are keen on ensuring the welfare of children, and such cases emphasize the need for vigilance in protecting vulnerable populations. It’s hoped that this situation will lead to greater awareness and implementation of safety measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
