Asa Ellerup, the former wife of Rex Heuermann, the suspected Long Island serial killer, is opening up in a new docuseries, “The Gilgo Beach Killer: House of Secrets.” The three-part series, which premieres on June 10 on Peacock, features interviews with Ellerup and their daughter, Victoria, providing an intimate look at Heuermann’s life and the chilling revelations surrounding his alleged crimes.
In the trailer, Ellerup recalls a conversation with an investigator regarding the infamous murders tied to Gilgo Beach. “I’ve heard of them,” she responds, hinting at the shock and horror that has unfolded since her husband’s arrest. The series promises to delve into the couple’s domestic life, showcasing how Heuermann managed to lead a seemingly normal life for decades while being accused of killing seven women between 1993 and 2010.
Heuermann is suspected of the murders of seven women, many of whom were escorts. Evidence against him includes DNA links, witness testimonies, and phone data. He was arrested in July 2023 and is awaiting trial. The remains of some victims were discovered in 2010 during an investigation into the disappearance of another escort, Shannan Gilbert.
Despite expressing doubts about her ex-husband’s guilt, Ellerup filed for divorce just days after his arrest. The divorce was finalized in April 2023, after a settlement was reached in March. Ellerup’s attorney, Bob Macedonio, stated that she is focused on moving forward for the sake of her family while withholding judgment on Heuermann’s guilt until the trial concludes.
The docuseries offers a unique and personal perspective on the case, offering insights from family members who have been deeply affected by the tragic events. “The Gilgo Beach Killer: House of Secrets” aims to unravel the complexities of a man accused of heinous crimes while also portraying the impact on his loved ones.
As this story continues to unfold, it serves as a stark reminder of the complexities surrounding such criminal investigations and the profound effects they have on families. The upcoming series may shed light on the personal struggles of those entwined in this tragic narrative, providing viewers with both a chilling and humanizing look at the circumstances.
