During a recent interview, Jackson White, along with his on-screen ex Grace Van Patten, teased that viewers might be disappointed by their favorite characters. Thomas Doherty humorously suggested that fans prepare for the finale by taking time to reflect in a quiet space with chamomile tea.
In the finale, viewers find Lucy and Stephen in intimate moments at a wedding in 2015 and later back at college. After Stephen believes he has control over the situation, Lucy seeks forgiveness from Leo and they reconnect. Stephen ultimately tells Diana their relationship is over, and her relief becomes evident as she later learns about her academic achievements that she had kept hidden from him.
When Stephen witnesses Lucy and Leo together at a party, he confronts them, leading to an altercation with Leo, who fights Stephen. However, Stephen smiles even after being beaten, realizing he can manipulate Lucy. Meanwhile, Bree’s relationship with Oliver takes a shocking turn when he reveals he is in an open marriage with Marianne.
Catherine Missal, portraying Bree, expressed her sorrow for her character’s situation, while Tom Ellis, who plays Oliver, found it difficult to justify his character’s actions. The emotional toll of the scenes was echoed by Spencer House, who said his experiences filming were exhausting but rewarding.
As the storyline progresses, it culminates in a tragic overdose for Drew, pushing the characters to confront their own faults. Stephen’s decision to take the blame for Lucy’s guilt illustrates his love for her, while Evan’s confession about cheating with Lucy adds further drama.
In a twist during the wedding day flashback, Lucy’s search for Stephen leads to a shocking revelation: a recorded confession from Evan about sleeping with her is sent to Bree, concluding season 2 on a cliffhanger.
Showrunner Meaghan Oppenheimer disclosed that the finale did not follow the original script, changing it at the last moment to better align with Stephen’s character. Executive producer Emma Roberts hinted at the potential for complexity in a future season, while Oppenheimer hinted at the need for justice and revenge in upcoming episodes.
Fans are left eagerly awaiting confirmation of a third season, while they can currently enjoy both seasons of “Tell Me Lies” on Hulu.
