A secret ballot is currently taking place at Nanuku Resort Fiji, as union members deliberate whether to pursue strike action in light of protracted negotiations with management regarding wages and working conditions. The Fiji Tourism Workers Union (FTWU) has been actively engaged with the resort’s management for the past two years, seeking to improve the employment conditions for its members.

Union consultant Salesh Naidu emphasized that the discussions have not resulted in satisfactory progress. Key demands raised by the union during these negotiations include a formal log of claims detailing the terms and conditions of employment, a proposed 10 percent increase in wages for all union members, assurances that working hours will not be reduced, and protections against the suspension of employees without adequate notice or justification for minor workplace issues.

Despite persistent dialogue, the union has expressed frustration at management’s lack of agreement on these critical issues. This stalemate has led to the union’s decision to conduct a secret ballot, allowing members to vote on the potential for strike action as a means of escalating their demands.

The ballot is being held on December 22, 2025, starting at 6:00 AM at the resort, providing union members with an opportunity to voice their stance on the ongoing dispute. The outcome of this ballot could significantly impact the working conditions and wages of employees at Nanuku Resort Fiji, highlighting the importance of collective bargaining in the tourism sector.
