Authorities are actively searching for Tim Keiderling, 58, and his daughter Esther Keiderling, 28, both from Ulster County, New York, who went missing during a hike at Baxter State Park in Maine. The father and daughter were last seen on Sunday, June 1, shortly after 10 a.m. local time as they made their way toward the summit of Katahdin.

Park officials discovered the Keiderlings’ vehicle in a day-use parking lot the following morning. In response to their disappearance, over 30 search and rescue personnel have mobilized, utilizing a K9 team and multiple helicopters, including a Blackhawk and Lakota equipped with thermal imaging technology.

As the search continues, officials have not yet found any evidence of the pair despite covering various trails and areas in the park. The ongoing search efforts are supported by the closure of the Hunt and Abol Trails to assist the operation. Authorities have requested that anyone who was in the area of Katahdin’s summit between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on June 1 reach out with any information.

This situation is disheartening, but it’s a reminder of the importance of outdoor safety and preparedness when venturing into nature. Those who enjoy hiking can take note of this situation and ensure they are well-prepared for their trips, equipped with the necessary tools and information to stay safe. Please share any relevant tips or experiences that may assist others in similar situations.

People with information about the Keiderlings’ whereabouts are encouraged to contact Houlton State Police at (207) 532-5400. While there’s no further information available at this moment, officials are committed to keeping the public informed as the situation develops.
