Residents of Seaqaqa on Vanua Levu are experiencing a significant boost in access to educational materials with the opening of a new bookshop. Conveniently located next to the Sugar Cane Growers Fund, the shop offers a wide range of books, stationery, and learning resources aimed at students, teachers, and the entire community.
Owner Mohamed Tauseef Khan is passionate about education and giving back to the community where he grew up. “I was schooled here in Seaqaqa before moving to Suva to complete my studies,” he shared, underlining his personal connection to the town. Mr. Khan is following in the footsteps of his father, the late Mohamed Taiyab Khan, who launched one of Seaqaqa’s first supermarkets in the 1980s.
In remembering his father’s legacy, Mr. Khan said, “My father believed strongly in hard work and service to the community. This shop is inspired by those values and his contributions to Seaqaqa.” While he currently works with the Fiji Sugar Corporation in the West, his heart continues to lie with Seaqaqa. He envisions the bookshop as a crucial resource for enhancing local education, emphasizing, “Education is very important for our future. If we can make books and stationery more accessible here in town, then we are investing in our children and in Seaqaqa’s development.”
Now officially open and ready for business, the bookshop is poised to cater to the educational needs of students, schools, and offices in the Seaqaqa area. This initiative embodies the vibrant spirit of local entrepreneurship while demonstrating a strong commitment to nurturing future generations through enhanced educational resources.
