Residents of Seaqaqa, located on Vanua Levu, are now enjoying improved access to educational resources thanks to the inauguration of a new bookshop in the town. Situated next to the Sugar Cane Growers Fund, this shop provides a diverse selection of books, stationery, and other learning materials designed to serve students, teachers, and the larger community.
Owner Mohamed Tauseef Khan expressed his commitment to education and community support through this venture, stating that opening the bookshop is his way of giving back to the town where he was raised. “I was schooled here in Seaqaqa before moving to Suva to complete my studies,” he shared. His family legacy contributes to this mission; Mr. Khan is the son of the late Mohamed Taiyab Khan, who established one of the town’s first supermarkets back in the 1980s.
Reflecting on his father’s influence, Mr. Khan noted, “My father believed strongly in hard work and service to the community. This shop is inspired by those values and his contributions to Seaqaqa.” Despite currently working with the Fiji Sugar Corporation in the West, he emphasized that his heart remains in Seaqaqa. He hopes the bookshop will significantly impact local education, stating, “Education is very important for our future. If we can make books and stationery more accessible here in town, then we are investing in our children and in Seaqaqa’s development.”
The newly opened bookshop is now welcoming customers and is set to meet the needs of students, schools, and offices throughout the Seaqaqa area, heralding a new chapter for educational access in the community. This initiative reflects the positive spirit of local entrepreneurship and a deep commitment to fostering future generations through education.
