A six-bedroom house in Seaqaqa, located along Nadogo Road in the Northern Division, was engulfed in flames yesterday afternoon around 2 p.m. The residence belonged to Viliame Lawavau, whose 70-year-old mother was at home at the time of the fire.

Fortunately, quick-thinking neighbors came to her aid, waking her up and helping her evacuate the premises unharmed. Joel Israel, the Acting Chief Executive of the National Fire Authority (NFA), expressed gratitude that no lives were lost in this devastating incident.

Israel emphasized that this unfortunate event underscores the risks associated with unattended cooking and faulty electrical connections. He urged Fijians to prioritize fire safety in their homes and to be prepared for emergencies by calling 910 for assistance.

The NFA is actively investigating the cause of the fire, reinforcing the importance of vigilance in fire prevention measures. This incident serves as a crucial reminder for communities to remain alert and proactive about safety in their homes.
