The Seattle Seahawks announced on Sunday that they have released veteran tight end Noah Fant. This decision comes as Fant, 27, was due to earn a non-guaranteed salary of $8.49 million for the upcoming season, allowing the team to save approximately $8.91 million against their salary cap.
Fant has had a notable career in the NFL, having spent the last three seasons with the Seahawks after being acquired in the high-profile trade that sent quarterback Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos in 2022. During his time in Seattle, he appeared in 48 games, starting 42, and recorded 130 receptions totaling 1,400 yards and five touchdowns.
Before his stint in Seattle, the Broncos selected Fant as a first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, where he tallied 170 receptions for 1,905 yards and 10 touchdowns over three seasons.
Following Fant’s release, the Seahawks will look to second-year tight end AJ Barner, rookie Elijah Arroyo, and recently signed veteran Eric Saubert to fill the void at the tight end position. Additionally, the roster includes undrafted rookie tight ends Marshall Lang and Nick Kallerup, indicating the team is looking toward the future and potentially investing in younger talent.
This strategic move aligns with the Seahawks’ efforts to manage their salary cap effectively while transitioning to a new era of players. The focus now shifts to how the team will adapt offensively without Fant and how the new tight ends will contribute moving forward.
