The Seattle Seahawks showcased one of their most noteworthy draft classes in recent memory this past April, and the initial results are promising. Currently sitting at a respectable 5-2 record, the Seahawks demonstrate the potential of their 11-player rookie draft class, with key contributions expected from five of these newcomers as they aim for a strong NFC playoff run.
Focusing on the first-round pick, left guard Grey Zabel, the 6-foot-6, 316-pound North Dakota State product has played all 428 offensive snaps, solidifying his role as a crucial part of the team’s offensive line. His performance is commendable, ranking first among interior offensive linemen in ESPN’s run block win rate, despite mixed reviews from Pro Football Focus (PFF) which place him 56th among 82 guards overall.
Second-round pick safety Nick Emmanwori’s journey began on a challenging note with an ankle injury that sidelined him early in the season. However, upon his return in Week 5, he has displayed the skills that made him an exciting asset. Emmanwori, who has nearly 70% of his snaps as a slot corner, ranks third in PFF’s grading among cornerbacks and has made significant plays, including a remarkable diving pass breakup against the Texans.
Elijah Arroyo, another second-round selection, has contributed as the team’s second tight end with 11 receptions for 140 yards, demonstrating his potential with several impressive catches. He boasts a physical presence and speed that has made him a valuable target alongside starting tight end AJ Barner.
Third-round quarterback Jalen Milroe has yet to show significant impact, having played limited snaps and spent time inactive after a fumble in Week 5. Meanwhile, fifth-round wide receiver Tory Horton has emerged as a dynamic playmaker with three touchdowns and a franchise-record 95-yard punt return, making him one of the standout rookies this season.
Fullback Robbie Ouzts is set to return from injury, aiming to bolster the run game which he positively affected before sustaining an ankle ailment. The Seahawks are optimistic about Ouzts’ return, given his strong previous performance, ranking second in PFF run block grading among fullbacks.
With other rookies like offensive lineman Bryce Cabeldue and wide receiver Ricky White III on the roster, the Seahawks have a talented and diverse group. As they continue to navigate the season, both their rookies and seasoned players are poised to contribute significantly to the team’s pursuit of success in the NFC.
