The beloved medical comedy series “Scrubs” is making a triumphant return to television with a revival officially ordered by ABC. Following years of discussions about reuniting, series creator Bill Lawrence, along with original cast members Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke, will join Zach Braff in bringing back the classic show. All three actors will also serve as executive producers. The revival is expected to premiere in the 2025-26 season.

Bill Lawrence expressed his excitement about the project, stating, “Scrubs means so very much to me. So excited for the chance to get the band back together.” The original series aired for nine seasons from 2001 to 2010, chronicling the experiences of John “JD” Dorian, played by Braff, and his close friends as they navigated the challenges of medical careers.

The revival will introduce a new storyline, focusing on JD and Turk reuniting after a significant time apart. While medicine and interns have evolved, their enduring friendship promises a mix of laughter and heartfelt moments as both new and familiar characters explore the dynamics of Sacred Heart Hospital.

Lawrence has long hoped for this revival, sharing at a 2022 ATX Festival session that he sees this as an opportunity to work with people he enjoys. Although he has an overall deal with Warner Bros. TV, he successfully negotiated a carve-out to participate as an executive producer for the revival. The series will be directed by Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra, both familiar with the original show.

With “Scrubs” joining ABC’s comedy lineup, which currently features “Abbott Elementary” and “Shifting Gears,” viewers can look forward to a nostalgic yet fresh take on hospital life infused with humor and emotion.
