Scottie Scheffler concluded a remarkable season in golf by clinching the FedEx Cup title, along with a prize of $25 million.

In the final round of the Tour Championship on Sunday, Scheffler faced a brief challenge but responded decisively by making three consecutive birdies, ultimately finishing with a 4-under 67. This performance secured him a four-shot victory over Collin Morikawa and pushed his total earnings for the season, including bonuses, to over $62.3 million.

His achievements this year are comparable to the last time a player had such a dominant season, when Tiger Woods won eight times in 2006, including two major championships. Scheffler’s eight wins included prestigious tournaments such as the Masters, The Players Championship, an Olympic gold medal, and the Tour Championship, which allowed him to finally claim the FedEx Cup.

Scheffler’s seven titles on the PGA Tour are the most accomplished by any player since Woods in 2007. Rory McIlroy remarked that Scheffler’s performance in 2024 would be remembered as one of the best individual seasons in years.

For the third consecutive year, Scheffler entered East Lake as the top seed, starting the tournament at 10-under par with a two-shot advantage. Two years ago, he had lost a significant lead in the final round to McIlroy.

Throughout the tournament, Scheffler maintained at least a five-shot lead after each round, although he faced a tense moment when storm clouds rolled in, leading to two consecutive bogeys. Morikawa, who made a birdie, reduced a seven-shot deficit to just two shots. However, Scheffler quickly regained control, making birdies on three consecutive holes to extend his lead.

He described the FedEx Cup as a season-long race that felt “silly” since everything came down to the final week of competition at East Lake. His exceptional performance left no doubt that he was a deserving champion, having finished in the top 10 in 16 of his 19 starts, with two second-place finishes and seven victories.

Justin Thomas praised Scheffler as the player to beat each week, acknowledging the immense pressure of being a favorite and the challenge of maintaining focus amidst the expectations.

Morikawa earned $12.5 million for his second-place finish, while Sahith Theegala finished third with a closing score of 64, taking home a $7.5 million bonus.
