Scottie Scheffler concluded a remarkable golf season by securing the FedEx Cup title and a staggering $25 million bonus.
During the Tour Championship on Sunday, Scheffler faced some competition but quickly regained control with three consecutive birdies. He finished with a 4-under 67, earning a four-shot win over Collin Morikawa. This victory brought his total season earnings to over $62.3 million, marking one of the most successful years in golf history.
Scheffler’s eight wins this season included prestigious events such as the Masters and The Players Championship, as well as an Olympic gold medal and the Tour Championship. His seven titles on the PGA Tour this year are the most by any player since Tiger Woods in 2007.
Rory McIlroy acknowledged Scheffler’s remarkable achievement, stating that the year would surely be remembered as one of the best in recent golfing history.
Entering the East Lake tournament as the top seed for the third consecutive year, Scheffler started with a 10-under par but faced a scare after making two bogeys, cutting his lead down to two shots. However, he quickly rebounded with impressive birdies and even sunk an eagle putt on the 14th hole, solidifying his victory.
Throughout the season, Scheffler consistently performed well, only finishing outside the top 10 three times in his 19 starts. He added two runner-up finishes to his record, solidifying his status as the player to beat.
Morikawa, finishing second, received a $12.5 million prize, while Sahith Theegala, who ended in third place with a final round of 64, earned a $7.5 million bonus.
