For the third consecutive season, Scottie Scheffler enters the Tour Championship with a strong chance to claim the FedEx Cup title. Starting the week at 10 under par and holding a two-stroke lead, the world’s No. 1 golfer aims to achieve a milestone after falling short in his previous attempts.
The well-maintained East Lake Golf Club is set to challenge Scheffler, who faces a determined group of competitors eager to catch him. Xander Schauffele, positioned at 8 under, is the closest contender and brings considerable experience on this course. However, how well he adapts to the newly renovated East Lake remains to be determined, though the two-time major champion is likely to play a significant role in the competition.
Joining the fray are St. Jude Championship winner Hideki Matsuyama and BMW Championship victor Keegan Bradley, both within four strokes of the lead. Additionally, Ludvig Åberg is looking to secure the FedEx Cup in his first appearance at East Lake, starting five strokes back. Notable contenders such as Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa, and Wyndham Clark begin the tournament at six strokes off the lead.
Meanwhile, former FedEx Cup champions like Viktor Hovland, Patrick Cantlay, Justin Thomas, and Billy Horschel have work to do if they hope to earn a second title. Veteran players such as Adam Scott, Tommy Fleetwood, and Tony Finau still have opportunities but will need stellar performances to catch Scheffler.
