The beloved Scary Movie franchise is making a triumphant return with its sixth installment, bringing back its iconic parody style to poke fun at the most notable horror films of the past decade. Featuring a mix of classic characters and new additions, Scary Movie 6 promises to satirize films like Get Out, M3GAN, and Terrifier, among others.

This new chapter follows the fifth movie from 2013, which notably did not feature fan favorites Anna Faris and Regina Hall. However, the latest film reunites Cindy and Brenda with their old friends Shorty (played by Marlon Wayans) and Ray (Shawn Wayans), as they navigate a world brimming with horror tropes and references. Nostalgic elements abound, including the return of Ghostface, the notorious killer from the Scream series that inspired the original Scary Movie.

The film not only aims to deliver laughs but also takes cheeky jabs at contemporary issues. There’s humor in politically correct conversations, such as when the character Dei Meeks discusses their use of they/them pronouns while facing a grisly fate. The film’s signature humor is intact, with scenes that mix absurdity and raunchiness, including an unexpected weapon involving sex toys.

As the trailer reveals, the film opens with Dei Meeks on a subway ride, surrounded by characters donning slasher masks—clearly inspired by iconic horror franchises like Halloween and Friday the 13th. References to upcoming films are also included, such as Heart Eyes, a slasher flick set for a 2025 release.

Among the notable characters, the AI doll from M3GAN makes a chilling appearance, humorously revealed to be a version of Ghostface. The trailer also introduces a character named Tuesday, reminiscent of Jenna Ortega’s portrayal of Wednesday Addams, adding a fun Easter egg to the mix.

Classic horror motifs are revisited as Cindy adopts Jamie Lee Curtis’s doomsday prepper style from the latest Halloween movie, while big nods are given to critically acclaimed films like Get Out through scenes such as a parody of the “sinking into the floor” moment. The trailer also features callbacks to the original Scary Movie with Jon Abrahams reprising his role, this time referencing the 2022 horror hit Smile.

Familiar faces return, including the creepy caretaker played by Chris Elliott, and the filmmakers don’t hold back with bizarre yet hilarious moments, such as Art the Clown from Terrifier, who’s seen in a disconcerting cameo.

With its distinctive blend of humor and cultural commentary, the sixth installment of Scary Movie seeks to rejuvenate the franchise for a new generation while providing nostalgic thrills for long-time fans. This unique take on horror not only entertains but also invites viewers to reflect on the genre’s evolution, ensuring a fun ride filled with laughter and timely reflections on what horrors await.
