The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) has announced significant progress in restoring water supply to Savusavu following recent disruptions. As of midday yesterday, the production capacity at the Savusavu Water Treatment Plant had risen to approximately 80 percent of its normal output. This improvement is largely due to the successful clearance of intake screens and stabilization of raw water inflows.

The recovery process for local reservoirs is also underway. By 5 PM yesterday, the Tavutikau Reservoir had been fully replenished, enabling the activation of booster pumps to start refilling the Navaqiqi Reservoir. This progress has allowed many lower-lying areas, including Savusavu Town, to gradually receive water supply, while residents in higher-elevation regions can expect restoration as reservoir levels continue to improve.

WAF is optimistic about further enhancements to the water supply later tonight, contingent on stable conditions persisting. However, some isolated areas may still face low pressure or intermittent supply during this transitional phase.

To aid customers affected by the disruptions, WAF has deployed seven water carting trucks throughout Savusavu and has mobilized additional operational teams for system flushing, intake maintenance, and network stabilization at all water sources. The Authority foresees a complete restoration of the water supply system by this evening or into tomorrow morning for elevated areas.

Residents are encouraged to conserve water while restoration efforts are completed, and WAF will continue to provide updates as needed.
