Sarah Jessica Parker opened up about her initial anxieties surrounding her role in the iconic series “Sex and the City” during a recent conversation with her co-star Kristin Davis on the podcast “Are You a Charlotte?” The actress recalled feeling “panicked” after HBO picked up the show in the late ’90s, prompting her to request her agents to help her exit the project.
Reflecting on her experiences, Parker described how she loved shooting the pilot in 1997 but felt overwhelmed by the idea of a long-term commitment to a television series. She had previously taken part in shorter-lived shows, which allowed her a sense of freedom she feared she would lose. “I was like, ‘I can’t be on a TV show. I don’t think I’m suited for that life,’” she expressed.
Parker even explored other alternatives, offering her services to HBO in exchange for a chance to work in films instead. Her agents, however, encouraged her to stick with the show for at least a year to see if her feelings would change. The actress reminisced about her first day on set, walking from her New York apartment to a Banana Republic store for filming, and remarked how she never looked back once production began. Over the years, “SATC” not only became a cultural touchstone but also earned Parker an Emmy Award for her role. Despite concluding its original run in 2004, the series was followed by two films and the recent sequel series “And Just Like That…,” which continues to engage audiences.
