AC Milan and FC Internazionale Milano have officially finalized the deed of sale with the Municipality of Milan, allowing for the acquisition of the San Siro Great Urban Function, which encompasses the historic Meazza Stadium and its surrounding area. This significant move marks a pivotal moment for both clubs and the city as they embark on an ambitious urban regeneration project.
The development of a new stadium, alongside a comprehensive revitalization plan for the San Siro district, highlights the shared vision of AC Milan and Inter, along with their respective owners, RedBird and funds managed by Oaktree. This initiative not only aims to secure long-term sporting success but also reflects an investment in sustainable growth for both football clubs.
To bring this vision to life, the clubs have turned to renowned architectural firms Foster + Partners and MANICA, who will oversee the design and development of the new stadium. This modern facility is expected to set a new standard in international sports venues and become an architectural landmark for Milan. Additionally, the project will introduce a new center of excellence, which aims to honor the rich sporting and cultural legacy of the San Siro area. This initiative will enhance the urban landscape through innovative, sustainable, and accessible designs.
The transaction was successfully completed via Stadio San Siro S.p.A., with backing from major international banks, including Goldman Sachs and J.P. Morgan as co-lead arrangers, along with local banking partners Banco BPM and BPER Banca. This collaborative effort underscores the financial and strategic commitment to elevating Milan’s status as a global football hub while nurturing the local community.
