San Antonio Marathon Road Closures Ahead of Sunday Race

Several roads in San Antonio, Texas, will be temporarily closed for the San Antonio Marathon and Half Marathon taking place on Sunday, December 7, 2025. Residents and visitors should remain vigilant while driving as these closures may cause traffic delays in surrounding neighborhoods and entertainment areas.

The half-marathon will feature a scenic 13.1-mile route, taking runners past notable landmarks such as the Tower of Americas, La Villita, and Travis Park. Roads around the King William and Pearl Districts will be affected as participants navigate the course.

Specifically, certain downtown streets will be shut down, including Dolorosa Street, West Market Street, and South St. Mary’s Street. From midnight until 9 a.m., West Market Street between South Main Avenue and St. Mary’s Street will be closed. Additionally, St. Mary’s Street from West Market Street to South Alamo Street will be closed from 6:45 a.m. to 8:35 a.m. Roads between the main plaza start line and the Tobin Center are expected to reopen by approximately 9:30 a.m., while those near the finish line will be accessible again by around 3:00 p.m.

Other specific closures include King William Historic District, where roads such as King William Street, E Guenther Street, and Cedar Street will be blocked starting at 6:45 a.m. with various reopening times throughout the morning. In the Pearl district, southbound Broadway will close at 6:45 a.m. and remain closed until 11 a.m., before fully reopening by 2:45 p.m.

The River Road Neighborhood will also see closures starting around 6 a.m., with streets like North St. Mary’s Street and East Mulberry Avenue impacted. A number of other neighborhoods, including Central, Monte Vista, Olmos Park, and Alamo Heights, will experience similar road closures. Each section has designated reopening times throughout the day, with some roads remaining closed past midday.

As marathon events draw participants from near and far, these closures are a standard part of ensuring the safety and smooth operation of the event. Residents and businesses are hopeful for a successful race day filled with community spirit, while being mindful of the logistical challenges posed by the necessary roadblocks.
