Paramount+ has officially announced the greenlight for “NOLA King,” a new series starring the iconic Samuel L. Jackson. This upcoming show will serve as a spinoff from the successful series “Tulsa King,” which features the legendary Sylvester Stallone in the lead role.
In “NOLA King,” Jackson will portray the character Russell Lee Washington, Jr., who will be introduced in the third season of “Tulsa King.” Washington is depicted as a prison comrade of Stallone’s character, Dwight Manfredi. Tasked by the Renzetti crime family to eliminate Dwight, Washington instead finds inspiration in their friendship, leading him to return to New Orleans after a lengthy absence of 40 years.
The official description outlines that “NOLA King” follows Washington as he reconnects with his past and attempts to reclaim his place in New Orleans, a city he left nearly four decades ago. As he rekindles relationships with family and friends, he also confronts challenges from his former employers in New York and faces threats from both criminal elements and law enforcement in New Orleans.
Chris McCarthy, co-CEO of Paramount Global and president of Showtime/MTV Entertainment, praised Jackson’s unique presence and appeal, viewing him as a catalyst for expanding on the success of “Tulsa King.” He expressed confidence that Jackson’s performance will elevate the series into a franchise that captures viewer engagement. Sylvester Stallone joined the excitement, noting that McCarthy’s vision aims to transform the initial show into a broader, family-oriented narrative, of which Jackson is the perfect anchor.
Jackson’s previous work includes roles in Apple TV+’s limited series “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey” and his return as Nick Fury in the Marvel series “Secret Invasion.” The third season of “Tulsa King” is set to premiere in September on Paramount+, while filming for “NOLA King” is expected to begin in early 2026.
With both seasoned actors at the helm, “NOLA King” promises to breathe new life into the interconnected mob family saga, appealing to long-time fans and new audiences alike. As these narratives unfold, Paramount+ continues to build on its lineup, aiming for a bright future in original content.
