The NSW Waratahs are gearing up for an exciting pre-season trial match against the ACT Brumbies, where they will debut Wallabies backrower Pete Samu. This match, part of the Shop N Save Supermarket Super Rugby Pacific series, is scheduled for tomorrow at Marist College in Canberra.

Samu’s addition is part of a significant reshuffling of the Waratahs’ lineup, which includes eight changes following a strong 49-19 victory over the Queensland Reds. In the loose forwards, Samu will team up with Clem Halaholo and Charlie Gamble, forming a powerful trio as they prepare for the test against the Brumbies.

The squad will also showcase several prominent Wallabies, including captain Jake Gordon, Max Jorgensen, Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii, Andrew Kellaway, and Folau Fainga’a. In the midfield, Suaalii will join forces with Joey Walton, while Gordon will collaborate with seasoned playmaker Jack Debreczeni in the flyhalf position.

Head coach Dan McKellar has noted the fierce competition for starting spots in the Round One lineup, driven by players’ strong performances in the trial matches. With a solid squad and effective strategies in place, the Waratahs are looking to build momentum and confidence as they approach a challenging season.

This trial match is particularly significant for Samu, marking his transition back to Australian rugby, and it serves as an opportunity for the Waratahs to further enhance their team dynamics before the official start of the season. Fans are eagerly anticipating how the new combinations will perform on the field, looking forward to a promising season ahead.
