Samsung has officially introduced its ultrathin Galaxy S25 Edge smartphone, boasting impressive features and a sleek design, just as anticipation grows for Apple’s upcoming thin phone launch. The S25 Edge is available for preorder at $1,099 and will be released on May 30.
This latest model features a 6.7-inch AMOLED 2X display and comes in at an astonishing 5.8 millimeters (0.22 inches) thick, making it lighter than both Samsung and Apple’s previous offerings. For comparison, the iPhone Pro and Pro Max are 0.32 inches thick, while Samsung’s own S25+ and S25 Ultra measure 0.28 and 0.32 inches, respectively.
Industry expert Mark Gurman from Bloomberg reports that Apple’s anticipated iPhone Air is expected to measure around 6.2 millimeters (0.24 inches), slightly thicker than the S25 Edge. Although a few millimeters may seem negligible, the difference in feel and usability can be significant, as noted by early testers of the S25 Edge. Many have remarked on its lightweight construction, weighing just 5.7 ounces compared to Apple’s 7 ounces for the iPhone 16 Pro.
Under the hood, the S25 Edge is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, accompanied by 12GB of RAM and storage options of 256GB or 512GB. While the device includes only two rear cameras—a 12MP ultra-wide and a 200MP main camera—Samsung emphasizes that AI enhancements provide an “optical-like” 2x zoom and a digital jump to 10x zoom capability. The ultrawide camera also features autofocus, allowing for captivating close-up photography.
Despite its slim profile, Samsung assures users that the S25 Edge will deliver all-day battery life through advanced cooling and power management features. It runs on Android 15 and includes Samsung’s Galaxy AI platform, which offers AI-assisted reminders and information tailored to users’ needs.
