The Christmas spirit took center stage in Hamilton as the Northlands Primary School Choir spread festive cheer during the launch of the Salvation Army Kettle Campaign in front of City Hall. The event commenced with the first donation made by Dave Morgan, the Acting Governor, who placed his contribution into the recognizable red kettle and expressed gratitude for the Salvation Army’s relentless efforts over the past year. “Every donation you make, whether large or small, goes towards making a real difference in someone’s life,” he emphasized, highlighting the struggles faced by many during the holiday season.
Mayor Charles Gosling opened the gathering by shedding light on the significant impact of the Salvation Army, noting that they serve around 8,000 individuals in need during Christmas, providing essential services such as food, clothing, and holiday hampers. He remarked on the community’s commitment to supporting one another, even amidst challenges, making the Kettle Campaign a powerful reminder of Bermuda’s spirit of giving.
Captain Alfred Esdaille, area commander of the Salvation Army, reinforced the rising need for support, stating that for many, Christmas has transformed from a time of joy into a struggle for survival. This reality underscores the importance of the contributions made during the campaign.
The launch also followed a heartfelt Thanksgiving dinner served by the team from the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club at the Salvation Army’s North Street Citadel. Hotel executives provided 200 traditional meals, including roasted turkey and a vegetarian option, with special treats from their pastry chefs, helping to foster community connections and gratitude during the Thanksgiving holiday. Tim Morrison, general manager of Hamilton Princess, highlighted that this marks the sixth year the hotel has participated in serving meals during the Thanksgiving season.
In an effort to further support the community, the Hamilton Princess is organizing its inaugural Christmas Wish Breakfast Gift Drive on December 16, inviting community members to donate unwrapped gifts for children and families in need. Each donor will be treated to a complimentary buffet breakfast, celebrating the spirit of generosity that characterizes the holiday season.
As the festive season approaches, the collaborative efforts between community organizations and individuals aim to bring hope and joy to those facing difficulties. The initiatives highlight the profound impact of kindness and generosity during a time that is often challenging for many, fostering a sense of unity and support within the Bermuda community.
