In anticipation of Utah Pride Week, Salt Lake City will implement temporary street closures from June 7 through June 8. The annual Pride Festival will take place around Washington Square, beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday and concluding at 7 p.m. Sunday.
Due to the festival, several roads near the City and County Building will be affected. Notably, 200 East between 400 South and 500 South was closed on Friday night for set-up. The Salt Lake City Police Department has urged residents to be mindful of increased traffic and to take necessary precautions while navigating through the downtown area, which is expected to see a significant influx of festival attendees.
The Pride Parade is set to commence at 10 a.m. on Sunday, starting at 100 South West Temple, proceeding onto 400 East, and finishing at 300 S. 400 E.
The police emphasize their commitment to investigating hate crimes and ensuring that offenders are held accountable. They encourage anyone who has been a victim or witnessed a hate crime to report it. Immediate threats should prompt a call to 9-1-1, while details of a hate crime can be submitted by calling 801-799-3000. Victims can also seek support through the SLCPD Victim Advocate services available around the clock.
The celebration of Pride serves as a vital reminder of the importance of inclusivity and community support. It emphasizes love, acceptance, and standing together against hate.
