Sale Sharks, an English Premiership rugby team, have initiated discussions with Fijian sevens standout Ponipate Loganimasi regarding a potential transfer to the club for the upcoming season. At 27 years old, Loganimasi is a prominent member of the Fijian Drua squad set to compete in the 2026 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season; however, he is garnering significant interest from overseas teams.
Loganimasi made quite an impression during his inaugural Super Rugby season, scoring six tries in 12 matches for the Drua. His exciting playstyle has quickly established him as one of the league’s most dynamic backs. Additionally, he demonstrated his adaptability at the international level by starting as full-back for the Fiji Water Flying Fijians in their Pacific Nations Cup final triumph against Japan in Utah. Coach Mick Byrne commended Loganimasi’s performance, especially noting his successful transition from his usual wing position, showcasing his confidence on a major stage.
Since his debut in September 2024, Loganimasi has made significant contributions, scoring two tries in the Pacific Nations Cup final and accumulating a total of nine tries across 19 matches for both club and country.
Gary Gold, the director of rugby at Sale Sharks, has been proactive in the transfer market in his quest to assemble a competitive squad capable of securing championship titles. The club has already signed players like Joe Marchant and Nicky Smith. However, they have also faced setbacks in their pursuit of several high-profile recruits, which has heightened their efforts to bring Loganimasi on board as a key prospect for next season.
