Sailing Stars Shine at FC Barcelona’s 125th Celebration!

FC Barcelona, one of the most esteemed football clubs globally, celebrated the 37th America’s Cup organized by Louis Vuitton prior to their significant La Liga match against Getafe CF. The club invited two distinguished sailing athletes to take part in the ceremonial kick-off.

Peter Burling, who serves as the skipper for Emirates Team New Zealand, the defender of the America’s Cup, along with Silvia Mas, an Olympian and 470 World Champion representing Sail Team BCN, graced the pitch at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, Barcelona’s home ground, under the stadium lights.

This ceremonial event holds special significance as FC Barcelona marks its 125th anniversary this season. By welcoming Burling and Mas, the club not only honors the historic America’s Cup, the oldest ongoing sporting competition, but also its relevance in Barcelona this year.

Amidst the cheers of enthusiastic fans, Burling expressed his appreciation for the experience, remarking on the electrifying atmosphere. He stated, “That was an epic opportunity to experience being part of one of the most iconic sporting clubs in the world and to bring the America’s Cup into the Olímpic Stadium full of passionate Barça fans.”

Both Burling and Mas donned ‘blaugrana jerseys’ featuring “37th America’s Cup” on the back, symbolizing their connection to both the sailing event and FC Barcelona, which embodies excellence and seeks to inspire future generations.
