SAGINAW, Mich. – Today will bring a slight relief from the intense heat the region has experienced in recent days. While temperatures remain high, with highs around 89 degrees in Saginaw and up to 91 degrees in Flint, the heat is tempered enough to avoid a First Alert Weather Day. Currently, a Heat Advisory stays in effect for Lapeer and Shiawassee Counties, and an Extreme Heat Warning continues for Genesee County until 8 PM.
As the day progresses, scattered showers are expected to develop, adhering to the unpredictable summertime weather pattern of sporadic rain. By early afternoon, around 1 or 2 PM, there is a chance for these showers to begin, particularly east of I-75, with storm activity lingering through dinner time.
There’s a Marginal Risk for severe storms today, indicating an isolated chance of brief strong winds and heavy rain if any storms do intensify. Weather conditions will remain humid with dew points in the lower 70s, and light winds shifting from west to northeast at 5 to 10 mph.
Boaters on Saginaw Bay can expect calmer waters compared to previous days with wind speeds reaching only about 15 knots. However, rain is still likely over parts of the bay as the day progresses.
Tonight, any showers or storms that develop will likely diminish as the night sets in and temperatures drop to around 66 degrees. Moving into Wednesday, a similar pattern will emerge, with showers possible but no significant storm activity anticipated. Highs will cool down to around 77 degrees, providing some welcomed relief from the heat.
Though the heat may make a comeback later in the week, the intermittent showers and slightly cooler temperatures should offer a break for residents during this part of summer.
Overall, while the weather remains challenging due to the heat and humidity, the return of scattered showers brings a refreshing change to the region, and there’s hope for more comfortable temperatures ahead.
