Domantas Sabonis delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 23 points and achieving a career-high 28 rebounds, leading the Sacramento Kings to a 114-97 victory over the Boston Celtics on Friday night. This impressive display marked Sabonis as the first player since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1971 to compile 20 points and 25 rebounds in a game against the Celtics.
With this win, Sacramento extended its winning streak to a season-high six games. The performance also solidified Sabonis’ place in the league, as this game counted as his 33rd double-double of the season and his 24th career game with 20 or more rebounds. Notably, the previous season’s record for rebounds in a single game had been 23, held by San Antonio’s Victor Wembanyama before this match.
DeMar DeRozan contributed significantly as well, adding 24 points and nine assists, while Malik Monk chipped in with 22 points and eight assists. The Celtics, meanwhile, faced difficulties, having lost two of their last three games. Jaylen Brown led the Boston team with 28 points, supported by Kristaps Porzingis, who had 22 points and 10 rebounds, and Jayson Tatum with a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds.
The game remained competitive through three quarters, tied at 76 before Sacramento surged ahead with a decisive 24-9 run at the start of the fourth quarter, establishing a significant lead.
As the Kings continue to build momentum, their combination of young talent and experienced players could position them well as they aim for further success in the season. This victory not only showcases Sabonis’ remarkable skills but also solidifies Sacramento’s playoff aspirations within a competitive Western Conference.
