West Indies all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford has made a mark in IPL 2025 while playing for the Gujarat Titans (GT). Known for his explosive batting, Rutherford has recorded 267 runs in nine innings with an impressive average of 38.14 and a strike rate of 160.84—his best performance since joining the league in 2019.
Rutherford appreciates the strong team dynamics within GT, stating that his role aligns closely with the expectations of the franchise. Despite the dominant performances from teammates like skipper Shubman Gill, B Sai Sudharsan, and Jos Buttler, who accounted for nearly 77% of the team’s runs this season, Rutherford has stepped up when needed, including scoring 43 runs against Delhi Capitals and 28 runs in a tight rain-affected win against Mumbai Indians.
Reflecting on his experience, Rutherford shared, “It’s just a good opportunity for me. I’ve been enjoying it and trying to make the best out of it.” He highlighted the importance of enjoying the game and emphasized team spirit, indicating his readiness to take on any role assigned to him.
Though GT faced a setback in their recent match, losing by 33 runs to Lucknow Super Giants, Rutherford and fellow all-rounder M Shahrukh Khan formed a vital partnership, contributing to a total of over 200 runs, showcasing the resilience of their middle order. The unfortunate loss underscored the necessity for the team to leverage their collective batting strength, particularly as they prepare for the upcoming playoffs.
Rutherford remains optimistic, stating that clear communication from the team’s management has allowed him to fit seamlessly into his role, and he expressed confidence in the team’s ability to learn and grow from their experiences. “We win together, we lose together, and there’s a lot of positives that we can take into the playoffs,” he concluded.
With the play-off round approaching, Rutherford’s contributions and the growing synergy within the Gujarat Titans may just propel the team toward a successful postseason.
