The Fiji Corrections Service is set to challenge the Fiji Police in the second edition of the ANC Cakobau Bowl, scheduled for October 31. This highly anticipated rugby match, launched at the Fiji Corrections Service coffee shop in Korovou, symbolizes the longstanding historical connection between the Fiji Corrections Service and the Fiji Police Force.
Acting Commissioner of the Fiji Corrections Service, Sevuloni Naucukidi, emphasized the rich heritage of both services dating back to the 1800s, stating that their establishment under police command marked the beginning of their collaboration. Naucukidi noted that last year, the Police Force triumphed over the Corrections team with a score of 45-31 at the Nasova grounds, but he expressed optimism for this year’s match, declaring, “We are better prepared, and we hope to give you the best preparation before the Sukuna Bowl.”
The acting head of the Police Force, Aporosa Lutunauga, welcomed the challenge, reinforcing the unity between the two entities under Fiji’s legal framework. He described the upcoming match as a means to showcase their shared commitment to the community and public safety. “Despite being on different fields, we have one purpose: to look after the people of Fiji,” he said, confidently accepting the challenge ahead.
Additionally, this event is part of a series of celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of the Fiji Corrections Service, which will include various activities from October 26 to 31. The match represents not only a rivalry but also a celebration of service to the nation and unity between the two organizations, fostering community spirit and pride as they prepare for what promises to be an exhilarating showdown. The anticipation for the match reflects the commitment from both teams to represent their legacies with honor and integrity.
