Mark Ruffalo and Ethan Hawke are set to headline a special one-night-only live reading of “All the President’s Men” in Los Angeles. Scheduled for January 9 at 7 p.m., the event will take place at the Harmony Gold Theatre and serve as a benefit for the Stella Adler Academy of Acting & Theatre. The evening will also pay tribute to the late Robert Redford, renowned for his role in the Academy Award-nominated film.
Joining Ruffalo and Hawke in the reading will be a talented ensemble that includes Michael John Benzaia, Don Cheadle, Spencer Garrett, Charlotte Larsen, Tim McNeil, Rob Morrow, John Jack Rodgers, Christopher Thornton, Missy Yager, and Parker Posey. The reading is adapted from the Oscar-winning screenplay by William Goldman, based on the investigative work of journalists Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein during the Watergate scandal, highlighting the significance of a free press amid political turmoil.
The tribute to Redford is especially poignant, coming shortly after his passing in September, as he was not only a leading actor in the film but also a key figure in its production alongside Dustin Hoffman. Organizers of the event note that the themes explored in the story remain critically relevant today, emphasizing the indispensable role that a free press plays in a functioning democracy.
In addition to providing quality training in the arts, the Stella Adler Academy is known for its ACTion/Outreach Program, which extends arts education to underserved communities, provides free public performances, and awards scholarships to aspiring actors. Approximately half of the student body at the academy benefits from some form of financial support, reflecting the institution’s commitment to accessibility in the arts. This event promises to be a meaningful celebration of both the legacy of investigative journalism and the profound impact of theater education in society.
