Ruben Amorim: From Turmoil to Triumph at Manchester United?

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has opened up about the challenges he faced during what he described as a tumultuous season. In a candid discussion with reporters on the team’s pre-season tour of the United States, Amorim reflected on the anxiety that came with managing United during their worst performance since the 1973-74 relegation year.

The team finished 15th in the Premier League, marking their lowest league finish in over three decades. Amorim, who succeeded Erik ten Hag in November 2024, managed to secure only seven wins from 27 league matches and suffered a painful defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final held in Bilbao.

The manager expressed the emotional toll of leading the squad during such a difficult time, particularly highlighting the pre-match jitters. He recalled how the dread of potential failures made leaving for games particularly stressful, saying, “To tell you the truth, it’s not how I returned to my house after the games, it was how I left to go to the games, because I felt that sometimes we would struggle.”

Despite the hardships endured, Amorim’s perspective has shifted positively. He conveyed a newfound hope, stating he feels more optimistic about the future of the team. While he admits to having a less “romantic” view of his managerial duties now, he also sees encouraging signs that lead him to believe that brighter days are on the horizon for Manchester United.

By facing the harsh realities of the past, Amorim’s resilience may pave the way for change and improvement within the club, offering fans a renewed sense of hope for the upcoming season.
