Royals Shake Up Roster: Promising Star Rave Takes the Spotlight

The Kansas City Royals have made a significant roster move by calling up outfielder John Rave while optioning Cavan Biggio to Triple-A Omaha. Rave has been performing exceptionally well, boasting a .301 batting average along with a .382 on-base percentage and a .549 slugging percentage, thanks to nine home runs and 17 stolen bases in just 44 games this season at Omaha.

Originally drafted in the fifth round in 2019 from Illinois State, Rave’s career faced challenges in the upper minors after reaching Triple-A in 2022. However, he showed notable improvement last year, finishing with a .259 average, 21 home runs, and 17 steals. Recently, Rave has truly stepped up his performance, especially in May, where he has hit .353 with seven home runs in just 21 games.

On the other hand, Cavan Biggio, who was signed as a minor league free agent and started on Opening Day, has struggled at the plate with a batting line of .174/.296/.246 over 37 games. Although Biggio offers valuable positional flexibility and has a solid walk rate of 13 percent, his lack of production led to this change in the roster. With five years of MLB service, he no longer has options, but he has the choice to either accept the optional assignment to the minors or elect for free agency in the upcoming days.

This roster adjustment highlights the Royals’ commitment to enhancing their team dynamics by placing emphasis on players who are currently performing well, pointing towards a potentially promising future for the squad as they move forward with Rave’s exciting ascent in performance.
