Salvador Perez shone brightly with a three-hit, three-RBI performance, including two doubles, as the Kansas City Royals secured a 6-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night.
The Royals made their intentions clear early, with Jonathan India starting the game by finding the gap for a double. Maikel Garcia continued his impressive season by hitting an RBI single, putting the Royals ahead 1-0 in the first inning. The offense remained relentless in the second, beginning with a walk by Jac Caglianone, followed by a double from Nick Loftin that brought him home. Loftin later scored on a ground out by Kyle Isbel, extending the Royals’ lead to 3-0.
Despite the Mariners’ Randy Arozarena hitting a long home run to bring Seattle on the scoreboard, the Royals managed to regain control, providing their pitcher Michael Lorenzen with additional support. Bobby Witt Jr. started a rally in the fifth with an infield single, followed by Vinnie Pasquantino’s double. Perez then hit a deep shot to right-center, which was misjudged by centerfielder Julio Rodriguez, resulting in a double and further adding to the Royals’ tally.
Though Lorenzen gave up two runs and exited after 4 2/3 innings with a 5-3 lead, key bullpen performances from John Schreiber and Angel Zerpa helped preserve the lead, with Lucas Erceg escaping a tough situation in the seventh inning. Perez capped off the scoring in the ninth with another single, while Carlos Estévez secured the win with his 23rd save of the season, placing him among the leaders in the league.
This marked only the second time in their last ten games that the Royals scored more than four runs, improving their season record to 40-46. They will face the Mariners again Wednesday night with Noah Cameron slated to pitch against Logan Gilbert at 8:40 PM CT.
This game highlights the Royals’ potential to build momentum as they continue their season, and with performances like Perez’s, fans can anticipate more exciting games ahead.
