The Kansas City Royals are reportedly in the final stages of a five-year contract extension worth $57.5 million with All-Star third baseman Maikel Garcia. This agreement, which includes a club option for a sixth year, is pending the outcomes of a physical examination.
Garcia, who is just 25 years old, had an impressive season last year, boasting a batting average of .286 along with 16 home runs, 39 doubles, 74 RBIs, 81 runs scored, and 23 stolen bases across 160 games. His performance earned him the 2025 Gold Glove award, showcasing his outstanding defensive skills.
Since joining the Royals in 2022 after being signed from Venezuela in 2016, Garcia has compiled a career batting average of .263 with 27 home runs, 87 doubles, 184 RBIs, 225 runs, and 83 steals in 449 games. The terms of his new extension will take him through the 2031 season, covering a significant portion of his arbitration eligibility from 2026 to 2029, as well as his first two years in free agency.
This deal marks a significant investment in Garcia, reflecting the Royals’ commitment to building a strong core of young talent as they look to enhance their competitiveness in the coming years.
