Princess Charlotte, although born into royalty, undergoes extensive training to fulfill her role as a professional princess and heir to the British throne. Her mother, Kate Middleton, serves as her guide. The duo attended the Wimbledon Championship at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on Sunday. Kate proudly watched as Charlotte mingled with players and attendees.
Kate, diagnosed with cancer in March and currently undergoing chemotherapy, attended the men’s finals match with Charlotte and her sister, Pippa Middleton Matthews. Kensington Palace confirmed Kate’s attendance, marking it her second public appearance in 2024, following King Charles III’s birthday parade in June. As the club’s patron, Kate presented trophies to winner Carlos Alcaraz and runner-up Novak Djokovic. A photo shared on Wimbledon’s Instagram account captured Charlotte shaking hands with Alcaraz, with Kate smiling proudly.
Nine-year-old Charlotte was also photographed smiling at her mother as Kate received a standing ovation from the crowd entering the Royal Box at Wimbledon’s Centre Court. Kate is a regular at the tournament, and All England Club chair Debbie Jevans expressed hope for her appearance, offering her flexibility to attend.
Other royal family members and acquaintances attended Wimbledon before Kate’s appearance, including her parents Michael and Carole Middleton, Queen Camilla, and Princess Beatrice. Kate also sent a congratulatory message to friend Andy Murray.
On Sunday, the Instagram account shared by Kate and Prince William posted a video montage of the tennis outing with Charlotte and Pippa, congratulating Alcaraz on his win and thanking Wimbledon organizers.
Kate’s parenting skills garnered praise beyond Britain. Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce, who met Charlotte during Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in June, called her a “superstar” and “so adorable” on their podcast New Heights. They commended her confidence and independence, attributing it to her upbringing by William and Kate.
“If anybody’s doing it right, Prince William is doing it right,” Travis said.
Jason added appreciatively, “She had a fire to her, she was asking questions, and it was probably the most electric part of it.”
