Rose Zhang makes her return to the LPGA at this week’s Mizuho Americas Open after taking a month off due to neck spasms. The 21-year-old golfer, who won in her professional debut at this same event two years ago, has spent the recent weeks rehabilitating at the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas.
Zhang shared that, while her recovery wasn’t entirely smooth, she is now pain-free. She only resumed hitting golf balls three days prior to this tournament, demonstrating her determination to return to the sport she loves. Zhang found the experience at the Performance Institute both helpful and somewhat intimidating, as she worked out alongside trained fighters.
In a light-hearted moment, she recounted a humorous yet shocking story from her physical therapy sessions, highlighting the intense environment of the rehab facility. Her therapist casually mentioned the need for an amputation in reference to a middle toe injury, which made Zhang reflect on her own recovery as relatively minor in comparison to the aggression faced by UFC fighters.
Despite the pain she endured, Zhang is viewing her time off as a “blessing in disguise.” She expressed gratitude for being able to conduct everyday activities without discomfort now and is optimistic about her golfing capabilities as she heads back into the competitive scene.
Zhang’s positive outlook on her recovery and eagerness to return to the LPGA showcases her resilience. The golf community is undoubtedly excited to see how she performs in what has been a much-anticipated comeback.
